In recent days, MIT University in the USA has reported the development of a biomimicry-inspired glue for submanrine applications as well as for a tissue sealant, preventing bleeding from potential patients. Researchers have taken a barnacle’s sticky substance as a model. Incredibly, a wound can be closed in 15 seconds after application, even in the presence of blood. The material has been created from polyacrylic acid immersed in an ester that provides adhesion, as well and another compound called chitosan, which serves for strengthening.
During testing, it was observed that when the material is applied to a dry surface, it repels blood and other components present, allowing the adhesive particles to cross-link and form a tight seal over the wound.
